Good Evening Poprad!

.

With so much of our British Media now controlled by the dreadful Rupert Murdoch and his ridiculous zimmerfull of gerontocrats, I find it very pleasant of an evening to listen to the youthful and vigorous voice of Radio Tatras International from Poprad in Slovakia.

The only radio station to feature timeclocks from Aukland (NZ), Luton, Poprad and New York on its website, it is a delightfully eccentric emanation, financed by my old friend Jan Telensky, the entrepreneur behind Poprad's regionally-famous Aquacity Hotel and run by the veteran English radio pirate Eric Wiltsher.

Listening to it brings back such memories of Central Europe. I remember especially when Leo used to travel to visit companies in Poland - his suitcase full of ink-jet samples. I probably never told you this, but he once won an award in Lodz (The Polish Manchester) for his contribution to printing science. They still made rather pretty painted glassware from the Krosno factory and embroidered tablecloths there, of which I have a tear-stained remnant or two from amongst the many souveniers he brought back.

Why I tell you this I know not but here, at random, is a picture of the Orbis Hotel where he became extremely drunk on Buffalo Grass Vodka after the award ceremony. I think it was watching Michael Palin which reminded me of all this. I'm so sorry to have bothered you.
